Heywood Club meeting planned

NORWAY – The Heywood Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, at the clubhouse. The club is celebrating its centennial. Guest speaker will be Nancy Hohmann, who will share her experience on Japanese schools and culture. All members are asked to bring an item for a care basket for a neighbor in need. Auxiliary to host supper, dance

LOCKE MILLS – The Jackson Silver American Legion Auxiliary will hold its last supper and dance for the season Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the hall on Gore Road. The harvest supper will be served at 5:30 p.m. followed by dancing at 9:30 p.m. to music by the Richard Felt Band. There will be door prizes. Admission for ages 12 and up is $7, under 12, $3.50.

Downtown forum

NORWAY – The Norway Downtown Revitalization invites all area residents, property owners and business people to a presentation and discussion about the future of Main Street at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, in the multipurpose room of the Norway Memorial Library.

Darcy Rollins, director of the Maine Downtown Center, will present the final report of June’s Resource Team Visit. Copies of the report will be made available at the library, the town office, and the downtown revitalization office.

The Norway Downtown Revitalization board and committee members will be on hand to talk about current and future downtown revitalization projects. Refreshments will be served. For information phone 739-2215.

Society meeting

PARIS – The Paris Cape Historical Society will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at the The Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church one mile north of Market Square on Route 117. Ben Conant will tell about the James Deering descendants and how they contributed to the town of Paris as well as many other places. James Deering Sr. grew up in South Paris and made his fortune establishing the Harvesting Co. that merged with the McCormick Co. to make farm machinery as the McCormick Deering. Refreshments will be served.
