1919-2003

NORWAY – Norma B. Newton, 84, of Sumner, died Friday, Oct. 10, in Norway. She was born in Sumner on Sept. 27, 1919, the daughter of Virgil and Annie Barrett Newton.

She was educated in local schools and had been a homemaker most of her life. She was a volunteer at Central Maine Medical Center in her younger years. She was a former member of the West Sumner Grange, was a member of the Sumner Mothers Club and a member of the Sumner Congregational Church.

She was an avid music lover and loved to play the piano. She especially enjoyed her family and enjoyed writing to her pen pal, Elizabeth Stalard in Virginia. She was one of the kindest people you could wish to meet.

She is survived by two sons, Allan Newton of East Sumner, and Wayne Newton and his wife Karen of Jay; one daughter, Lola Newton of Sumner; one sister, Eleanor Davenport of Canton; four grandchildren; and one step-granddaughter.

She was predeceased by her husband, Eldred Newton, in 1997; a son, Gilbert “Gibby” Newton in 1942; and one sister, Virgilyn Cummings in 1998.
