OXFORD – Considered a championship contender in Oxford Plains Speedeay’s Limited Sportsman division before the start of the racing season, Shane Green suffered through a spring and summer in which he didn’t even win a race.

The South Paris driver found some fall vindication Sunday afternoon, outdistancing a 26-car field in his division’s segment of the eighth-annual Little Guy 100s at OPS.

Bill Childs Sr. of Leeds backed up his Mini Stock track championship with a 50-lap victory over a 22-car field.

Then rain arrived, washing away the Strictly Stock and Late Model Stock 100-lap races until next Sunday. Those features will be contested in conjuction with Oxford’s season-ending Halloween on Wheels program beginning at noon.

Green overtook pole-sitter Reggie Leeman early in the race and weathered numerous restarts and a rain delay for the victory.

Terry Merrill finished second, followed by OPS regular-season champion Carey Martin, Leeman and Chuck Estes.

Childs dominated the four-cylinder event.

Larry Melcher of Livermore Falls raced from 17th starting position to score second, trailed by the father-son tandem of Danny and Ron Morris in third and fourth and Chris Varney in fifth.
