GREENWOOD – Sixteen is not enough.

Not enough members that is, for new Oxford Municipal Officers Association President Fred Henderson. He said he hopes to increase membership in the group this year.

Henderson said he remembers when there were 50 members to the association, about 25 years ago. His mother was a selectman for Sumner then.

“This is a good organization for municipal officers,” Henderson said. “Everybody has problems and sometimes someone has an answer to share.”

He said he has picked up information to possibly implement in his town on road care and solid waste that he gained from coming to the association meetings. He said he likes the idea of towns sharing responsibilities and services, even though it can be difficult to do sometimes.

“One of the purposes of our association is to bring people together,” Henderson said.

He said the meeting on Oct. 22 will feature Jeff Herman, from the Maine Municipal Association, who will speak on the tax reform bill facing voters in November.

The meeting will be held in the Hartford Town Hall. Henderson said supper starts at 6:30 for interested municipal officers.
