Lewiston High School has found a new guidance in the eclectic Mr. Farausi Cherry. Working this year as the freshman guidance counselor, Mr. Cherry is happy to find himself in Lewiston. Formerly working for the Portland Housing Authority, the Maine Youth Center, Portland High School, and Migrant Education, Mr. Cherry has a High Masters in School Counseling that he obtained at the University of Maine in Farmington. A very active member of his community, Mr. Cherry has already taken upon himself a coaching position for JV Girls Basketball, and is involved with Special Olympics, winter and spring soccer, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and currently working to start an International Club for the second semester.

Mr. Cherry’s freshman class will be the first class to fall under the full affects of President Bush’s “No Child Left Behind Act.” However, Mr. Cherry is more than confident that he cannot only see his class pass, but that the banner currently hung in the Lewiston High School hallway “Best MEA Scores Class of 1999” will soon be replaced by one for his own class of 2007. This enthusiastic counselor loves his new occupation, especially the opportunity to socialize with so many people, and is often found in the infant care room, or cafeteria doing just that. Out of school, Mr. Cherry enjoys shopping, “chilling,” and is an avid basketball fan. He is happy to be in Lewiston, and plans to stay here, in what he considers to be a growing and upbeat community.
