Oak Hill High School has begun the school year with extensive repairs, renovations, and improvements. The work reflects both the school’s increasing student population and it’s now aging buildings.

The athletic fields are sporting new bleachers and the gym floor has been refinished. The familiar OH in the center of the floor has now been replaced by the names of supporting groups along the outside edges. The school colors of red, white, and blue are still proudly displayed. As work on the gym continues through the fall, the gym roof will be replaced and the leaks in the current roof finally done away with. Outside, a well is being drilled to create a watering system for the athletic fields to improve their condition during the long hot summers of Maine.

A new set of classrooms is being added to accommodate the mass of new students attending Oak Hill. The new space will be greatly appreciated; classrooms are full each period of the day, and study halls, held in the cafeteria and the auditorium, currently have a minimum of 125 kids each.

All renovations will have to be worked around due to some difficulties in the initiation of the construction. Principal Bruce Johnson explains, “We need the classrooms, and the bleachers show the support of the community and school board.” The patience the students are having to exhibit in order for the new faculties to become available is a great characteristic of Oak Hill’s adaptive spirit. The renovations are going to help relieve the increasing class sizes and enormous study halls. Thanks to all who have helped to make these renovations possible.
