Parenting class

RUMFORD – A six-week parenting class begins Monday, Oct. 20, at the Rumford Public Library. The class is for parents of children up to and including the age of 12. It is sponsored by Community Concepts. The class is free and refreshments will be served. At least six parents must register for the program. The class was successfully offered last spring. Other parenting workshops include two half-day Boot Camp for Dads workshops in Rumford and South Paris; and a Nurturing Fathers Program in Rumford. Health forum

RUMFORD – The River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition will host a Community Network meeting at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, downstairs at the Business Resource Center at 34 River St. Registered nurse Deborah Gorham of Rumford Hospital will speak about the hospital’s new tobacco free policy to take effect Nov. 20. Tobacco use will no longer be allowed in the buildings or on the grounds of hospital property.

The purpose of the networking meeting is to involve all community members in issues that affect the health and well-being of the River Valley communities. This meeting is open to all community residents, organizations, businesses and agencies in the area.

Ski Sale

BETHEL – The Bethel Outing Club’s 23rd annual ski sale will take place Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24 and 25. Individuals and families can stock up on new and used alpine, telemark, cross-country and snowboard equipment and clothing. Boots, poles, bindings, boards and more than a thousand pairs of skis from over a dozen ski shops and individuals will be on sale.

Ski Depot and the Sunday River Cross Country Center will be available to mount bindings throughout the sale so that purchasers can leave with “hill-ready” equipment.

Individuals may also bring equipment to sell, subject to a 15 percent consignment fee, anytime after 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24. Items must be priced on tickets provided by the Outing Club at the sale, or picked up at the Bethel Area Chamber of Commerce (Bethel Station) and filled out in advance. Proceeds of the sale benefit area youth ski programs.

The sale will be held at the Gould Academy Field House, Church Street, in downtown Bethel. Sale hours are 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24; and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25.
