Anti-casino resort folks need to “get a life” regarding one of their main points of argument, which is that, since some irresponsible Mainers might either gamble or drink away their paychecks at a resort to the detriment of their families, a “no” vote is needed to “protect them from themselves.” It’s big brother to the rescue.

Forty years as a lawyer, judge and state senator has me convinced that the majority of Maine people are responsible and that irresponsible folk are in the vast minority.

Resort naysayers seek to big brother Maine’s minority, to the detriment of the state’s majority; denying jobs and tax relief, in the process. Government by minority rule.

Former Gov. King, as naysayer, publicly stated a resort casino would bring Maine “slots, sex and crime.” Yes, he said “sex.” And guess what? He’s a family man. King needs to preach what he practices.

And can you believe the latest naysayers’ claim? Commerce and business groups contending a resort casino will mean a shortage of job applicants in Maine, especially regarding summer jobs, meaning job vacancies will occur. That’s a heck of a lot better than what we now have: job shortage.

Because I’ll be away from home on Election Day, I’ve already cast my absentee ballot for the casino resort. In fact, I voted for jobs and tax relief. I’ve never supported big brother government and never will.
