FARMINGTON – A Community Forum on Teen Homelessness will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at Franklin Memorial Hospital. The forum is sponsored by Peace In Our Families.

Organizers of the forum spoke with teens at Mount Blue, Mount Abram and Jay High Schools about teen homelessness. Students reported on their experience with homelessness.

They said they object to the stereotype of a homeless teen as being “someone who doesn’t follow the rules,” or “people think they’re hoodlums or troublemakers.”

The forum will present the local community with an opportunity to discuss the issues and causes of teen homelessness with a panel of professionals who work with teens. Attendees will also help identify strategies to address teen homelessness in their communities.

Representatives from social service agencies, law enforcement, schools, churches, teens, parents and all interested community members are invited to participate.

For more information or to register for the forum, phone 778-3787. Registration is requested but not required.
