RUMFORD – The River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition is seeking area residents to participate on their board of directors.

The coalition’s goal to achieve measurable improvements in the quality of life in the River Valley towns of northern Oxford County through coordinated community health promotion.

The coalition oversees community projects such as tobacco and alcohol prevention, lead poisoning prevention, oral health, arts and culture, good nutrition and access to physical activity.

Board meetings are generally held six times a year, with committees meeting more often. People who would like to participate can call the office at 364-7408.

Benefit for chapel

CANTON – Pastor Scott Verrill will present a program on “Stained Glass, Broken People” at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, in Bradbury Memorial Chapel, Canton Point Road. This is the second in a series of fund-raisers to help restore and preserve the chapel. For more information, people can call 597-2005.

Hunters breakfast

RUMFORD – The officers and members of Rumford Elks Lodge 862 will have their fifth annual hunter’s breakfast from 4 to 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1. The menu will include scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, homemade beans, toast, biscuits and beverages. It will cost $5 for adults and $2.50 for children 16 and under. People don’t have to be hunters to attend. People are being asked to use the Exchange Street entrance..000
