WOODSTOCK – Town Manager Vern Maxfield told selectmen Tuesday that he has obtained permission for the town to use the old Maine Department of Transportation garage on Route 232 while an addition to the town garage/fire station is being built.

Maxfield said the building can be used to store town equipment.

“We are still waiting for the cement work to be done because the metal for the project has not come in. The metal has been ordered, but we’re still waiting at this time. That’s the hang up right now,” he said about the addition. “I hope the metal will come in so the cement work can get under way later this week.”

The addition could be done by the end of November, he said.

Selectman Leon Poland asked if there would be any charge for using the state garage.

“I don’t know yet if there will be any cost, but I will be meeting with a DOT representative later this week to get the key and I will ask that same question then,” Maxfield said.

The selectmen and town highway crew were pleased to hear that a place is available for storing some of the town equipment.

In other business John Fitzmorris, chairman of the town recreation committee, told the board that work on the new playground on Lakeside Drive is completed and the playground equipment is in place.

“The $15,000 for the playground is pretty well closed out,” said Fitzmorris, “and we have permission from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection to make improvements to the beach area now. That work won’t be done, however, until next spring because we just received their approval. Also, some people think we should name the park, which is something that might be considered before next year.”

Selectmen took the suggestion of a name under advisement and praised the committee for its work.
