FARMINGTON – Literacy Volunteers of Franklin and Somerset Counties are holding a quilt raffle to benefit their programs. Proceeds will be used to purchase books and learning materials for adult literacy students. The raffle drawing will be Nov. 20 at the local Literacy Volunteer annual meeting in Farmington. Literacy Volunteer tutors, who are trained in 18-hour workshops, offer free help with reading to adults. Creative economy

FARMINGTON – Anyone interested in downtown revitalization, business attraction, cultural life, youth retention, tourism and strengthening communities is being encouraged to attend a local forum on Oct. 29. Mountain Counties Heritage and the Maine Arts Commission will host a Creative Economy Forum from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at the University of Maine at Farmington. Afterward, there will be an optional viewing of the film, “Downside Up,” which documents a transformation in the city of North Adams, Mass. In preparation for a May 2004 Blaine House Conference on the Creative Economy, the steering committee is holding a series of statewide regional forums. The purpose is to present the creative economy concept and gather public input.
