1959 – 2003
BRUNSWICK – Rita Bernier Bouchard, 44, a resident of Bowdoin, died Friday, Oct. 17, at Mid-Coast Hospital following a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Feb. 15, 1959, the former Rita Bernier, daughter of Lionel and Louise Bernier of Lewiston. She attended Lewiston schools before moving to the Brunswick area.
She was employed at Kim’s Crafts in Topsham until her illness. A true artist in every form, she made everything she touched beautiful. She was full of life and enjoyed many hobbies such as flower and vegetable gardening, cooking and sewing.
A talented musician, she sang in several bands in the area earning her great respect among all musicians. She also performed live on the air for a Thanksgiving special on Radio Station WCME as a result of winning a singing contest.
She especially loved social gatherings, particularly the time spent with family playing music with her brothers and singing. Every family gathering was centered around music, which her father and mother truly loved. Her strong vocals and harmonies could bring you to tears. A piece of her music will always live within us all.
She had a broad circle of friends which she kept in high regard. Always willing to listen and offer advice, she never spoke harshly of anyone. She lived her life with true faith in God and love of all people.
Her laughter was contagious and she was truly a good sport. She often would send jokes via e-mail to friends and family to make people laugh. A very light-hearted and spirited person, she could bring a smile to anyone’s face.
She took great pride in their new home with its long winding driveway and country setting. It was there that she married her husband and soul mate, Roger Bouchard, on Aug. 4, 2001.
She is survived by, and will be sadly missed by her husband, Roger; father and mother; Lionel and Louise Bernier of Lewiston; grandmother, Lauria Marineau of Lewiston; brother, Donald Bernier and his wife Lorraine and their children, Michelle and Nicole of Lewiston; brother, Richard Bernier and his wife, Jane and their children David and Jennifer Bernier of Auburn, and Gregg Bernier of Minot; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Lorraine Bouchard; aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents; maternal grandfather; and uncle, Joseph Dupuis.
