OXFORD – Art Turner, former curriculum director for SAD 17, has agreed to serve as interim principal at Harrison Elementary School. He replaces three-year Principal Walter Wallace, who will become the principal at Coffin School in Brunswick.

SAD 17 Superintendent Mark Eastman made the announcement at Monday’s Board of Directors meeting. In his resignation letter, Wallace thanked Eastman for giving him the “chance to prove myself as a principal” and said he hoped he made a positive contribution to the district and the Harrison community during his tenure as Harrison’s elementary principal.

Eastman said Turner, who retired after a long career at SAD 17, once served as principal of the elementary school in Harrison.

“We’re very pleased (Turner) has agreed to step in as an interim,” Eastman said. Turner, he added, “will be a wonderful stabilizing influence out there.”

Eastman said Turner will serve until the end of January or early February, when it is expected a new principal will be hired.
