Dear Sun Spots: In response to No Name, No Town’s request for Apple Treasure Cookies (Sun Spots column Oct. 3), here’s my recipe. It came from one of those women’s magazines years ago:

Apple Filling – This makes more than enough. We eat the leftovers on ice cream.

Ingredients:
1 to 3 finely chopped peeled apples (about 1 cup); ½ cup sugar; ½ cup cut up raisins; ¼ cup chopped walnuts or pecans; 2 tablespoons water or apple juice or cider; 1 teaspoon cinnamon; ¼ teaspoon nutmeg. Method: Cook filling 10 to 15 minutes and cool completely. Cookie Dough Ingredients and Method: Cream together 1 stick margarine, ½ cup brown sugar. Add 1 egg and ½ teaspoon vanilla, and mix well. Mix 1 cup flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, ½ teaspoon cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon cloves and ¼ teaspoon salt, and add to wet ingredients. Add 2 to 3 tablespoons milk or juice and mix well. Add 1¼ to 1½ cups oatmeal and mix well, letting it sit awhile to soften oatmeal. Use two-thirds to three-quarters of the cookie dough for drop cookies. Press a well into each with a wet small spoon (I use a baby spoon) or a wet finger. Fill the well with the apple filling. Use one-third to one-quarter of the dough as a top over the filling. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes.

I sometimes make these for our church’s scholarship craft fair. My family likes them because there’s a little bit of magic in every bite and because there’s leftover filling. – V. Rogers, Otisfield.

Dear Sun Spots: I was wondering if you could get the words to “Rockin’ Years” by Dolly Parton? Thanks a lot. – No Name, No Town.

Answer:
The song you refer to is included on the albumsEagle When She Flies” (1975), “I Will Always Love You” (1996), and “Superhits” (1996).

I’ll do everything I can to make you proud to be my man

And I’ll fulfill all your fantasies

I guess we’re promising a lot, but for now it’s all we’ve got

And I’ll stand by you thru our rockin’ years

First chorus:

Rockin’ chairs, rockin’ babies, rock-a-bye, rock of ages

Side by side we’ll be together always

And if you’ll hold me tight when you love me

That’s all I’ll ask of you

And I’ll stand by you thru our rockin’ years

I’ll be your friend, I’ll be your lover

Until the end, there’ll be no other

’cause my heart has only room for one

Yes, I’ll always love you, and I’ll always be here for you

And I’ll stand by you thru our rockin’ years

Repeat first chorus

Second chorus:

Rockin’ chairs, rockin’ babies, rock-a-bye, rock of ages

Side by side, we’ll be together always

And, yes, I’ll always love you and I’ll always be here for you

And I’ll stand by you thru our rockin’ years, and I’ll be here

And I’ll stand by you thru our rockin’ years

Dear Sun Spots: In past columns there have been requests for older/used but still functioning computers. I didn’t save the columns as I was not in the position to give one. I do have one now that I will be happy to give to a nonprofit organization or school in need. Please call (207) 782-6393 to arrange for a pick up. – P.M.D., Auburn.

Dear Sun Spots: We are doing our yearly haunted yard to celebrate Halloween, and are looking to do it on a grander scale this year. If anyone has any scary masks, costumes, and any other type of Halloween decorations that they would like to donate, please give me a call. My daytime phone number is 784-0733 and evening number is 782-1707. Please ask for Dan. – Dan Deletetsky, Auburn.
