FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington student-run Political Science Club is inviting the community to a public debate on the statewide proposal to permit the construction of a casino in Sanford. It will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, in Thomas Auditorium in UMF’s Ricker/Preble Hall. It is free and open to the public. Representatives from CasinosNo! and Think About It, the chief organizations on each side, are slated to appear. The debate will feature audience participation. Noontime concert

FARMINGTON – The Smith Brothers of Industry will perform at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, in Nordica Auditorium at the University of Maine at Farmington. Jay Smith will be on fiddle and Shane Smith on guitar. Donations will be accepted at the door. For more information, people can phone 778-7136.

Chesterville party

CHESTERVILLE – A Halloween party for kids will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at the Chesterville Grange Hall. A costume parade, haunted hayride, games, crafts and food will be available.

Spaghetti benefit

FARMINGTON – There will be a benefit supper for Irving Big Stop waitress Sue Cowan, who is battling cancer. The supper will be 6 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Elks Lodge on School Street in West Farmington. It will include a spaghetti buffet and entertainment from the music group Borderline. Tickets are available at Irving Big Stop for $25 per couple and $15 for singles. For more information, people can phone Dana Blair at 778-4384.

Spaghetti at clubhouse

RANGELEY – A spaghetti feed will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Rangeley Region Guides’ and Sportsmen’s clubhouse on Old Skiway Road in Oquossoc. The Cerminara family will prepare and serve the all-you-can-eat spaghetti and meatballs portion of the meal. Salads and desserts will be provided by members of organization. Prices are $7 for adults, and children under 10 are half price. It will benefit the club’s activities.
