BUCKFIELD – Town Manager Cindy Dunn presented an application to selectmen on Tuesday night for a Gammon Road automotive recycling business.

A public hearing on the request was set for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12. If the business is approved by the town, it will be a first for Buckfield.

Thomas Greenlaw filed the application along with a $250 application fee.

His brother Wayne Greenlaw will run the operation. Wayne Greenlaw says he ran a recycling business before and knows the rules and how to operate legally.

When the application was reviewed by the board, Selectman Oscar Gammon said, “I feel this application is incomplete.”

He was referring to the lack of measurements on the location map.

Gammon said he would have that information in the office by the end of this week.

Dunn asked him to notify the abutters in writing before the hearing. Selectmen will visit the site after the hearing and invited other interested parties to accompany them.

In other business, Dunn said she met with the engineer, heating contractor, plumbing and concrete contractors for the new highway garage. Its floor will be poured Monday, weather permitting. The engineer received the three required permits from the state fire marshal.

Dunn also said only one bid was received for the garage overhead doors. The bid was $5,995, awarded to PDQ Door Inc.

Dunn reported she had secured a tax anticipation line of credit at a bank for $350,000 at a annual rate of 2 percent. Selectmen voted to have Dunn borrow as necessary.

The purchase of a new fire truck from New England Fire Equipment and Apparatus Corporation requires a loan of $140,000 at 2.85 percent interest for 50 months. The authorization to make the loan was approved as was an application for a loan of $94,500 at 3.2 percent for 60 months for the new garage.

The next board meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, because Nov. 11 is Veterans Day.
