PARIS – The deadline to make a telephone appointment for Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School parent-teacher conferences is 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6. Conferences will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, at the school. Most teaching teams are scheduling appointments on a different day. If a student is on a freshmen or sophomore team, parents will receive a letter from the team giving the dates and times for their conferences. Volunteers needed

BETHEL – Maine Handicapped Skiing is seeking winter volunteers. Every winter, the organization teaches more than 250 adults and children with physical disabilities to downhill ski, snowboard, cross country ski and snowshoe. It needs at least 350 volunteers to make this possible. Volunteers are required to take three days of training in November and December, and then give at least 10 days of volunteer time working with handicapped participants at three possible locations: Sunday River Ski Resort, Sunday River Inn and Cross Country Ski Center, and Sugarloaf/USA. Volunteers receive a ski/trail pass for every day they volunteer from Jan. 5 to March 31. People served may have traumatic brain injury stroke, spina bifida, cerebral palsy and spinal cord injury. They could be blind and visually impaired, deaf and hearing impaired, and amputees. Potential volunteers must be at least 18, be an intermediate skier or rider, and have their own equipment and indemnifiable bindings for skis. There is a junior volunteer program for ages 16 and 17.
