LEWISTON – Norman R. Beaupre, PhD, will give a talk to La Survivance Francaise at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, at the Multi-Purpose Center. His presentation will concentrate on his most recent literary work, “Lumineau,” a collection of tales and legends in French with illustrations by artist Shelley Schoneberg.

The collection was published in 2002 by JCL in Chicoutimi, Quebec. The collection includes two Maine legends, “La Malediction de Squando” (Squando’s Curse on the Saco River) and “Le Voilier Fantome de la Kennebec” (The Phantom Ship of the Kennebec). There are nine tales and legends in all.

The author will explain his inspiration and talk about the research done that brought the necessary details to write the work. He will also read one tale to his audience, “La Legende du Laiteron” (The Legend of the Milkweed).

Beaupre will include a short reading of his last manuscript in French just recently approved for publication, “Deux Femmes, Deux Reves” (Two Women, Two Dreams). This is a novel based on the story of his maternal grandmother and his own mother at the turn of the 20th century.

Beaupre is a professor emeritus of the University of New England, Biddeford. He published two books in French with one to be published next spring while having three manuscripts in English at a literary agent in New York awaiting publication.

Lucille Henault will serve as hostess. New members are welcome.
