Worcester sends Portland to a 6-3 defeat.

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) – The Worcester IceCats scored five goals in the second period and went on to beat the Portland Pirates 6-3 on Wednesday night.

Marc Brown had two goals for Worcester while Jeff Panzer had a goal and two assists. Sergei Varlamov and Ernie Hartlieb had the other Worcester goals. Colin Forbes, Dwayne Zinger and Trent Whitfield scored goals for the Pirates, who had a six-game unbeaten streak against the IceCats snapped. Roman Tvrdon had two assists.Curtis Sanford got the win in net, making 23 saves.

It was his first appearance of the season after missing seven games while on paternity leave.

Maxime Ouellet started in the Portland net.

but was replaced by Rastislav Stana after the fifth Worcester goal.
