To anyone who had doubts regarding the need for a heart and vascular institute here in Lewiston, listen to those who had the need for cardiac assistance.

Imagine having a problem with your heart. Just think of racing to a hospital in Portland, or even Boston, for help with your family or friend, even in an ambulance.

Remember the controversy regarding this issue a few years ago? I, for one, am happy to say that I voted for Central Maine Medical Center, and to all of those who said “yes,” thank you.

Just recently, I needed cardiac care. The emergency room personnel did all they could to help return my heartbeat to normal, and they were truly wonderful; but, their decision was that more invasive action was needed, which was available in the Cardiac Institute, and, fortunately for me, was upstairs rather than a dash to another hospital out of the city.

The care and attention given by the team – which included doctors, nurses, medical department, lab personnel, maintenance and food service – was exceptional. I was able to be in a single room from admittance to discharge.

If anyone needs cardiac attention, please do not wait until it is almost too late. Go to the hospital immediately. The care and attention for your specific problem will save your life and the concern of family and friends. Thank you to all of the people involved in helping me.
