LITCHFIELD – Selectmen approved a questionnaire on the town’s proposed land-use ordinance Monday night that would be available to voters after they exit the polls Tuesday.
The purpose of the one-page survey is to determine how aware voters are of specific issues related to the proposed ordinance. Two years of attempts to get it passed by voters have failed. “We have tweaked it and we’re going to approach the voters (at the annual town meeting) again in 2004,” said Town Manager Steve Musica. “We’re still tweaking it. The questionnaire is kind of an awareness thing.”
The town approved a comprehensive plan in 2000, which included components of the proposed land-use ordinance.
In other business, selectmen gave final approval to a consent agreement with Hallowell Road resident Douglas Cater. Musica said the approval signifies that Cater has fulfilled terms of the consent agreement he signed earlier this year to comply with the town’s ordinance that addresses junkyards and auto graveyards.
In another matter, the board accepted the resignation of Jackie Krupinsky from the Conservation Commission.
Selectmen also appointed Kathy Hilchey to the Recreation Committee.
In other business, the selectmen discussed the possible sale of the town’s grader. Musica said it ran for about one hour and broke down again after being repaired. It was returned to the shop. The unpaid bill for the repairs is about $5,000. The town has been without the use of the grader for about three months and has had to contract work out to a private contractor.
The board also discussed purchasing a new audio system to use at selectmen’s meetings.
