Lewiston drops its eighth game in nine outings with a 2-1 decision to Acadie-Bathurst

For the second consecutive night, the Lewiston Maineiacs fell behind early against an Atlantic Division opponent, and for the second consecutive night they struggled to recover.

Juraj Liska scored less than four minutes into the game and Thomas Beauregard added a short-handed goal at 19:05 of the first period as the Acadie-Bathurst Titan held on to beat the Maineiacs 2-1 in front of 2,218 fans at the K.C. Irving Center Friday.

The loss is the third in a row for the Maineiacs and the eighth in their last nine games. Matt Davis made 32 saves and garnered the game’s third star for his effort.

Lewiston again outshot its opponent, launching 45 shots at Titan goaltender Adam Russo, who was awarded the game’s first star.

The lone bright spot for Lewiston was a goal midway through the third period by Vladislav Balaz, who broke out of a scoring slump with his third of the season at 12:27.

The loss gives Lewiston a 4-8 record for the month of October, and drops the Maineiacs to 5-12-1 overall. Bathurst, meanwhile, improves to 6-13-1.

Lewiston will travel to Rimouski overnight and take a day off to practice before playing one more road game Sunday afternoon against division-leading Rimouski.
