I think Mr. Lowell may have misunderstood what is going on in our schools (Oct. 29).

I, too, applaud Miss Taylor’s willingness to state her own beliefs in a letter to the editor (Oct. 24). I am happy to do so, even though I find them personally offensive. That is tolerance.

Tolerance, not homosexuality, is what is being taught in schools. Miss Taylor has apparently understood and acted on the lesson. She is not being required to change her beliefs, she is merely being required to tolerate those of others. If she chooses to exclude as possible friends those schoolmates whose sexual preference is different from her own, our Constitution entitles her to do so. School policy merely prevents her (and anybody else) from bullying others into sharing her belief.
