POLAND – A local man who crashed his car Saturday was cut from his vehicle and rushed by helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, police said.
A hospital spokeswoman said she could neither confirm nor deny that he had been treated there.
S. Carl Webster, 67, was northbound on Route 26 shortly before 11 a.m. near the Lion’s Club when he apparently lost control of his 2003 Chevrolet Malibu. The car traveled down a steep embankment, rolled over and slammed against trees before coming to a stop, Androscoggin Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. William Gagne said in a written release.
Poland Fire and Rescue workers cut Webster, who had been wearing a seat belt, from his car, Gagne said.
Webster was taken by LifeFlight to CMMC “where he was treated for his injuries,” Gagne said.
Authorities closed a portion of Route 26 between Aggregate and Schellenger roads to all traffic for about an hour during the scene investigation and removal of Webster’s car.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation, Gagne said.
