1916-2003

LEWISTON – Albert J. Belanger, 87, of 1512 Riverside Drive, Auburn, died Sunday, Nov. 2, after a brief stay at Montello Manor.

Born in Lewiston, Aug. 7, 1916, the son of Magloire and Alice (Beaulieu) Belanger, he was married to Lorette (Morin) Belanger, who passed away on Feb. 1 of this year. Albert and Lorette lived for 30 years on County Road in Turner and he had been living with his granddaughter, Cyndy Bell on Riverside Drive for the past two years.

Albert was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater, where he received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

Albert worked as a lumberman for much of his younger years and ran Lorette’s Flying A Variety Store in Auburn with his wife for over 20 years, until their retirement. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in the northern woods of Maine, especially the Moosehead and Rangeley areas.

He enjoyed gatherings with his family, which includes: his daughter, Pauline Belisle of Springfield, Mo.; his eight grandchildren, Cyndy Bell and Tim Camire of Auburn, Dan Camire of Turner, John Camire of Greene, Joy Marshall of Bar Harbor, Penny Case of Harrison, Ark., Caroline Last of Springfield, Mo. and Lisa O’Neal of Portales, N.M.; and his 16 great-grandchildren and nine great great-grandchildren; as well as his son-in-law, Armand Camire; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Fred Belanger and his two sisters, Clara Desgrosseilliers and Jeannette Bizier.
