CHESTERVILLE – Clayton Wesley Kelley, 77, of Chesterville, passed away at home Sunday, Nov. 2.

He was born in Vienna on Feb. 15, 1926, the son of Harold and Pearl (Whittier) Kelley. He was educated in the schools of Vienna. He served as sergeant in World War II and was honorably discharged on Aug. 20, 1946, having received a WWII Victory Medal.

He married Florence Eva Neal in 1947. He worked in various mills around the area as a machine operator. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and acquired the nickname “Hawkeye” due to his ability to spot a bird before anyone.

Survivors include: six daughters, Cheryl Marquis and husband, Donald, of Broken Arrow, Ok., Rosalie LaPierre of Portland, Dawn Poulin and husband, Ron, of W. Gardiner, Dale Gordon of Sidney, Norine Kelley of Newberryport, Mass., and Jeanne Kelley of Belgrade; a son, Neal Kelley and wife, Betty, of S. Gardiner; two sisters, Doris Wight of Livermore and Phylis Neal of Vienna; one brother, Edwin Kelley of Vienna; fifteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

He is predeceased by a son, Mark Sanborn Kelley, a brother, Raymond, and long-time companion, Romaine Hobert.
