Local Somalis are invited to a reception and program featuring Ali Khalif Galaydh, former prime minister of Somalia, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, in Portland.

Galaydh, a visiting professor at Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota, will speak and answer questions from 6 to 7 p.m. His address will be followed by an international dinner at a private home.

Sponsored by the World Affairs Council Distinguished Speaker Program, Galaydh will speak on “Somalia’s Political Turmoil and the Role of Local Somalians in Improving Somalia’s Economic Situation.”

A one-time minister of industry for Somalia, Galaydh teaches courses on the politics of public affairs, strategies for economic development,and the role of nongovernmental organizations in governance.

The reception and program will take place at King Middle School, 92 Deering Avenue in Portland. Directions to the private dinner will be e-mailed to dinner registrants.

Dinner is open to all, but reservations and prepayment are required by Friday, Nov. 7.

Program fees are: $7.50 for members; $10 for guests; $3 for students.

Dinner fees are: $30 for members; $40 for guests; $12 for students.

Combined program and dinner fees are: $35 for members; $45 for guests; $15 for students
