Monmouth Academy Drama will be putting on ‘Arsenic and Old Lace’ this fall. Joseph Kesseling writes an enthralling comedy about two psychotic old ladies, Abby (Trisha Stevens) and Martha (Sarah Thompson) Brewster. Their three nephews, Teddy, Jonathan and Mortimer Brewster are all rather peculiar characters. Teddy (Coleman Nation) believes he is Theodore Roosevelt. Jonathan (Ryan Pugh) is a fugitive serial killer, (his accomplice is Dr. Einstein, Yulia Grefenyuk). Mortimer (Scott Turcotte) is a dramatic critic who is in love with Elaine Harper (Elizabeth Caron), the reverend’s daughter. Her mother, Mrs. Harper (Andrea Blundon), is good friends with the Brewster sisters, who live next door to the church. Abby and Martha have filled their cellar with the bodies of 12 lonely, religious, elderly gentlemen, former boarders. Officer O’Hara (Paul Mason) and Officer Brophy (Brittany Mayo), also friends of the Brewster sisters, visit them regularly. Their supervisor, Lieutenant Rooney (Amanda Kinsey), keeps them on a short chain. This hilarious drama also includes Mr. Witherspoon (Jon Bailey), the superintendent of an insane asylum, and Mr. Gibbs (Jon Bailey), an unsuspecting boarder.

“Arsenic and Old Lace” will be performed on Nov. 7 & 8, at 8 pm, and Nov. 9 at 2 pm at Cumston Hall in Monmouth. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Come and join the fun!
