NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Martie Maguire of the Dixie Chicks is expecting twins.

Maguire, 34, who plays fiddle and mandolin in the group, posted the news on the Dixie Chicks’ Web site. “Yes, we are delighted to inform y’all that I am expecting not one, but two little chicklets,” wrote Maguire, who is in her first trimester.

She said she and her husband, Gareth, have been trying to conceive for 2½ years.

“I can’t tell you what an emotional ride this road to getting pregnant has been,” Maguire said. “I know that compared to some couples’ struggles, ours has been relatively easy, but I will say that we have an all new appreciation for the miracle of life.”

The Maguires were married Aug. 10, 2001. Gareth Maguire is a teacher and his brother is married to a sister of Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines.

Both Maines and the group’s other member, Emily Robison – Maguire’s sister – have children.

The Chicks’ hits include “Landslide,” “Ready to Run” and “Wide Open Spaces.
