In other business, selectmen learned that the Maine Department of Transportation have scheduled the long-awaited public hearing to build a snowmobile bridge across the Androscoggin River.

Town Manager Scott Cole said the hearing will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at the Crescent Park School.

“They are talking about going out to bid in the spring, with construction to start next year in 2004 and the bridge will be open by next winter,” Cole said.

The news means that town officials must now get to work on drafting a snowmobile access ordinance in conjunction with the planned work.

Other upcoming meetings include two Economic Development Forums between town officials from Newry and Bethel to determine future growth planning. The first is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, and the second at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4. Both were tentatively scheduled for the Telstar High School library Monday night.
