FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington’s Erin Campbell scored a first-half goal as the Beavers shutout Lasell 2-0 in women’s soccer Wednesday.

UMF’s first goal was scored by a Lasell defender when Jodie Welch kicked the ball in front of the net and a Lasell defender knocked it in.

Patty Boutin made five saves for the Beavers (15-3).

Men’s basketball

CMCC 85, EMCC 78

AUBURN – Taylor Caron poured in a game-high 27 points and Lance Poland contributed 22 and pulled down 13 rebounds to push Central Maine Community College to a 85-78 season-opening victory over Eastern Maine Community College in men’s basketball Wednesday night.

Josh Berard added 15 points and Patrick Dempsey handed out 15 assists for the Mustangs (1-0). Eastern Maine was led by Daryl Watson with 24 points and eight assists. Tony Pebbles chipped in with 19 for Eastern Maine (0-1).

Boys’ soccer

Hyde 2, Hebron 1

HEBRON – Quin McAllister kicked in the game-winning goal on the teams’ third penalty kick as Hyde defeated Hebron 2-1 in boys’ soccer Wednesday.

Teammate Karl Olsen scored Hyde’s other goal. Hebron’s only goal in overtime was scored on its first penalty kick by Dai Miyajima. Ian Siekman of Hyde and Randy Morin of Hebron scored in regulation to force the extra sessions.

With the victory, Hyde will advance to the MAISAD finals Saturday.
