The meeting will be held Monday.

GREENWOOD – Town officials will hold a special town meeting Monday and then an informational session on Alder River Dam.

The town meeting was set to allow voters to approve taking $15,000 from the surplus fund to cover a shortage in the amount approved at town meeting for SAD 44.

“On the SAD 44 payment, I just didn’t estimate high enough,” said Town Manager Carol Whitman.

If approved, the total payment to SAD 44 would be $601,500.

After the town meeting, Selectman Ivan Roberts is scheduled to make a presentation on the status of Alder River Dam.

The town had engineers review the condition of the structure and is waiting for proposals on repairs.

Town Manager Carol Whitman said the earthen berms on each side of the dam need to be raised.

“They have settled over the years,” Whitman said. “The berm on the west side is about 2 feet lower than it should be and on the east side has to be raised about a foot.”

She said there are holes in the cement around the sluice gate and that the gate probably needs to be replaced.

She estimated that the current sluice gate is 20 to 30 years old.

The meeting will be held in the multipurpose room of the town office and is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
