HARTFORD – Selectmen on Thursday night adopted an Electronic Communication Policy taken from the Maine Municipal Association.

The action means all electronic communication, data, software files, and other information created, received, transmitted or stored on any part of the town’s computer and telephone system can be monitored at any time without notice to employees or others.

Town employees may not use the system or send, receive, create or store electronic communications on the system in a manner that is illegal, disruptive to others, or that interferes with town business. Each employee will sign the policy.

Selectman Lee Holman said it should not be a problem with Hartford’s employees, but the board unanimously agreed that it was a good policy to have in effect. Code Enforcement Officer Kay Hawkins reported that the Adams and Brand illegal dumps had been cleaned up. She has cited Howard Reeves II on Dakin Lane for an illegal auto graveyard. She also reported that Michael Cooper is adding a float plane hanger onto his house. The concrete slab for the hanger was poured in 1990. He said he received a “no time limit” permit at that time.

Selectman Scott Swain thought the Planning Board should rule on the time limit for the permit before work could continue.

Hartford Community Church, represented by Beverly Murphy, received permission to order three “911” signs for Church Street, the Bottom of Staples Hill Road, and a traffic entering sign at the church.

Holman reported she had spoken to several residents who do not want the “911” signs up on their drives. Swain said the town voted for them, and if more than one house was on the drive it was not considered private and the town had a right of way.

Swain will be going to a snow and ice removal workshop on Nov. 19.

Holman and Selectman Laura Marston will be going to a newly elected officials workshop Dec. 4.

There will be a rabies clinic from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 8, at the town hall for $10 per vaccine.

There will be a public potluck supper at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at the town hall.
