Five new people have been appointed to the Legislative Youth Advisory Council and three have been reappointed for another term.

Senate President Beverly C. Daggett, D-Augusta, announced that David Heidrich of Oxford, Melissa Simones of Greene and Alicia Stokes of Augusta have all been reappointed to the council.

New appointments include Jesse Powers of East Millinocket, Jennifer Thompson of Readfield, Carolyn Boyle of China, Emily Thornquist of Fort Fairfield and Dana Storer of Augusta.

The Legislative Youth Advisory Council was created two years ago to advise the Legislature and its committees on youth issues. They meet eight times a year and hold two public hearings. They have authorization to submit legislation.

The Youth Advisory Council will hold its next meeting from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at the Cross State Office Building in Augusta.

During the meeting, the council will hear from the Department of Education, the Secretary of State, and the Attorney General’s Office. The council will also discuss how youths can access higher education, find jobs and work with immigrant populations. They will also talk about extending educational services to young people in state custody.
