The big news for 2003-2004 is the addition of a Novice/Intermediate double chair. This provides comfortable access to a lot of well groomed, fun terrain.

The snowmaking is in and so are the lights. The new chair, which will add 700′ to Black’s vertical (bringing it to 1,120 feet), goes in next spring. The existing nine trails are also serviced by a 2,200′ T-bar and a 500′ handle tow. Six trails are lighted, including the “Haymaker,” making it one of the few double black diamonds in the East with lights. The lights go on every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night.

Cross Country Skiing

Black Mountain has been the site for cross country skiing in the Rumford area for the past 30 years. With trails developed by Chummy Broomhall, local two-time Olympian and designer of the Squaw Valley and Lake Placid Olympic trails, Black Mountain offers skiing for all abilities. The trails are groomed 15 feet wide each day for both skating and classic techniques. The area is known for having one of the East’s best race courses.

The touring center welcomes our nordic skiing friends. The touring center is also a comfortable place to wax your skis or watch a x-country video. We offer 17 kilometers of groomed trails, with snowmaking on 4 kilometers.

Cross country programs for all levels will be offered throughout the season. The popular parent and tot nordic preschool program will be offered again this year.

Snowboarding

Black Mountain T-bar opens its snowboard park, featuring a 300-foot half pipe with 12 foot walls, 2 grinding rails, a table top, a spine and several rolls.Come try your Alley Oops, Method Airs, or Backside Indy 540s in our new facility. Open both day and night, this is the place to get some “big air” at an affordable price.

Snow Tubing

There’s no need for special equipment…just warm clothes and a little courage, and anyone can enjoy the thrill of sliding down our groomed tubing runs. A 300-foot handle tow transports you up the hill, and a choice of six chutes supply the way down…a very, very quick way down.

Half-day, all-day, and evening tickets are reasonably priced for all tubers. Black Mountain’s base lodge offers a place to warm up and refuel between runs.
