BOSTON (AP) – Sergei Samsonov scored a goal and added an assist as the Boston Bruins beat the Dallas Stars 4-1 on Saturday night for their first home win.
Glen Murray, Michal Grosek and Travis Green also scored for Boston, which was 0-1-2-1 in its first four games at the FleetCenter.
The Bruins have an Eastern Conference-leading 20 points in 14 games, and beat Dallas for just the second time in 11 games.
Mike Modano scored for Dallas, which lost its third straight – all on a three-game East Coast road trip in which the Stars were outscored 11-2.
Boston broke open a 1-1 game with three goals in the second period.
Green gave the Bruins a 2-1 with his first goal of the season 4:04 into the second period, as he lifted a soft wrister that floated past Ron Tugnutt’s glove.
Samsonov pushed Boston’s lead to 3-1 on a give-and-go with rookie Patrice Bergeron at 9:50 of the second. Tugnutt committed to Bergeron after Samsonov fed him between the circles. But Bergeron sent the puck back to Samsonov, who scored into an open net.
Murray put the Bruins ahead 4-1 with a backhanded wrist shot at 16:34 of the second.
Mike Modano opened the scoring 4:03 into the first period, but Grosek tied it at 17:32 of the first with his second goal.
Andrew Raycroft stopped 27 of 28 shots for his fourth win of the season. He’s allowed two goals or less in five of seven full games this season.
Tugnutt made 29 saves for Dallas.
Notes: Stars defenseman Don Sweeney made his first appearance at the FleetCenter since signing with Dallas as a free agent in the offseason. Sweeney spent 18 seasons playing in Boston – the last 14 for the Bruins, and four at Harvard. … Stars goalie Marty Turco was given the night off after starting Dallas’ first 14 games. He’s 6-6-1 with a 2.29 goals-against average. … San Jose is the only NHL team without a home win.
