BETHEL – A retired Texas A&M University geology professor is slated to help The Mahoosuc Land Trust kick off its winter series of programs by local experts.

Jerry Vincent, a geologist whose specialty includes paleoecology and sedimentary environments, is slated to present “Where We Live – The Geology of Western Maine,” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, in the Trustees Auditorium in the McLaughlin Science Center at Gould Academy.

Vincent taught for many years in Texas before retiring to Bethel in 1992.

Other speakers in the program series this year include Bernd Heinrich, noted wildlife biologist and author, outreach educators with The Chewonki Foundation of Wiscasset and prize-winning wildlife photographer and author Jennifer Loomis. Heinrich is slated to present “Ravens in Winter, Why We Run, Winter World,” on Jan. 14 in Bingham Auditorium at Gould, followed by a book signing.

Also in Bingham Auditorium on March 24, Chewonki is scheduled to present “Raptors of Maine,” featuring live birds, while Loomis’ presentation, “Wood Ducks and Other Local Favorites,” is set for April 21. There will be a book signing for “A Duck and a Tree” following the program.

The Local Knowledge series programs are free, open to the public and handicap accessible. For more information, phone the trust office at 824-3806.
