Howdy! How are you this week? Drinking your morning coffee? Eating cereal at an antique table inside your great grandmother’s home? How about shaving on the way to work? Yep, just what I thought. Anyhow, carry on.
Part of the goal of the “What’s Up” series is to give readers a different spin on the world and perhaps shed light on issues that we tend to miss as we mosey on along through life. Ready? OK. Robin Williams. (Caution: All “concrete sequential learners,” please turn the page).
The guy is an incredible comedic genius. His humor intrigues me, from “Awakenings” to “Patch Adams” and “Dead Poets Society” to “Mrs. Doubtfire.” I’d treasure the opportunity, just for a moment, to see the world from his point of view and embody his wit. It’d be wonderful to think as fast as he does, and come to understand the world in which we live from a different perspective – a Robin Williams perspective. Bizarre, is it not? Indeed, I’ll second that one.
If we could put ourselves in each others shoes, as I suggest with Williams, it would give us the rare opportunity to experience the way other individuals think, feel and why they act the way they do. It could, perhaps, aid in extinguishing wars, decrease racism and bring back a heightened sense of respect to a culture that has lost so much of it.
I’d also like to trade spaces with a homeless person, an astronaut, a lunch server or a doctor. Wouldn’t you? I mean, if you could? Because, only then would we be able to become multi-dimensional and understand people for who they are, not how society deems them.
Just the same, I am comfortable with being Jake Sasseville. I’ll never be Robin Williams (but I’d welcome the chance to meet him any day), nor do I want to be him. The idea, however, of being able to see the world from a refreshing point of view is enticing. Alrighty. Enjoy the rest of the coffee, don’t choke on the cereal and gosh, stop shaving! That’s what the mirror at home is for. Until next week…
