LEWISTON – Esther N. Sylvester, 83, of 101 Prospect Ave., died Friday evening, Nov. 7, at Marshwood Center for Health Care, after a short illness.
Born in Chicago, Ill., Feb. 21, 1920, the daughter of John and Anna Habich Enge, she graduated from Central High School in Madison, Wisc., in 1938 and was a graduate of Madison Business School.
She was employed in the library at the University of Wisconsin. She was married June 18, 1943 to Walter C. Sylvester and he predeceased her Aug. 21, 1997.
She was a member of the Advent Christian Church, where she served as deaconess and a member of the hospitality committee and sang in the choir for several years. She was also a member of the L&A Christian Women’s Club, Horizon 55 and did volunteer work at Central Maine Medical Center for a short time. She enjoyed the company of her cat and reading.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol Murch and her husband, Ronald of Lisbon; a son, Stephen Sylvester and his wife, Lynn of Sabattus; and two grandchildren, Chad and Lori Sylvester.
