1945 – 2003

AUGUSTA – Patricia E. Ellis, 58, of 7 New England Road, passed away peacefully on Nov. 9, at Maine General Medical Center with family and friends by her side, following a long courageous fight with cancer.

Born in Skowhegan, April 21, 1945, the daughter of Walter and Doris (Roderick) Day, she attended schools in Monticello, was a graduate of Mount Merci High School in Waterville and attended Farmington State Teachers College.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and loved by all who knew her. In the early 60s she lived and worked in Skowhegan where she met and married her husband of 39 years, Harold E. Ellis. They were wed on Sept. 4, 1964.

In the early 70s Mrs. Ellis and her husband moved to Augusta, where she operated her own snack bar business, through a program for the visually impaired for 21 years. Her most recent employment was as an intake specialist for the Department of Labor Division for the blind. She was also very active in the advocacy for people with debilitating eye diseases. She was a member of the Pine Tree Guide Dog Users Group.

Survivors include her husband, Harold E. Ellis of Augusta; and beloved guide dog, Ilya; her parents, Walter and Doris Day of Monticello; a son, Thomas P. Ellis and wife, Shawna of Farmingdale; two daughters, Rebecca J. Ellis of Augusta and Sherry A. Belka and husband, Tyler of Augusta; five grandchildren, Amanda Ellis, Jessica Tingler and Joshua and Justin Belka, all of Augusta and Adriana Ellis of Farmingdale; three brothers, Daniel Day of Florida, Gary Day of Maryland, and Phillip Day and wife, Gloria of Norridgewock; one special uncle, George Roderick of Augusta; several sisters and brothers-in-law; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many dear and lifelong friends.

β€œPat” touched the hearts of many people with her caring, humor and outgoing personality and love of others. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered.
