NEW YORK – Petr Nedved and Vladimir Malakhov each had a goal and assist against 18-year-old Marc-Andre Fleury on Wednesday night to help the New York Rangers beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-2 and snap a three-game losing streak.

Nedved’s power-play goal 1:18 into the third period gave the Rangers a 4-1 lead. He then helped set up Tom Poti’s goal 3:02 later.

Devils 2, Sabres 2

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Maxim Afinogenov’s third period goal gave the Buffalo Sabres a 2-2 tie with the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday night in the first NHL regular season game in Rochester.

Jamie Langenbrunner had a goal and assist for the Devils, who are unbeaten in their last seven (5-0-2).

Capitals 7, Hurricanes 1

WASHINGTON – Robert Lang scored three goals in a game for the first time ever, Dainius Zubrus scored twice and the Washington Capitals broke out of an offensive slump with a 7-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday night.

Robert Willsie and Alexander Semin also scored for Washington.

Flames 6, Blackhawks 2

CHICAGO – Rookie Matthew Lombardi had his first three-goal game and Dean McAmmond added two more scores to lead the Calgary Flames to a 6-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday night.

Chris Clark also scored for the Flames.

Red Wings 6, Stars 2

DALLAS – Steve Yzerman and Pavel Datsyuk scored two goals each and the Detroit Red Wings extended the Dallas Stars’ losing streak to four games with a 6-2 victory Wednesday night.

Steve Thomas, signed as a free agent on Nov. 5, got his first goal for Detroit and the 412th of his career. Mathieu Schneider added a short-handed goal and Brendan Shananan had two assists for the Red Wings.

Detroit scored on its first shot 1:07 into the game when Yzerman deflected Jiri Fischer’s blast from the right point.

Bill Guerin and Brenden Morrow scored for the Stars, have lost four in a row for first time since the 1995-96 season. The Stars (7-8-1) haven’t been under .500 after 16 games since that same season.

Dallas was back at home after losing all three games on a recent road trip.

Yzerman scored a power-play goal on a wrist shot from the top of the right circle with 51 seconds left in the opening period. Stars goaltender Marty Turco was screened on the play and didn’t react on Yzerman’s eighth of the season.

Guerin’s power-play deflection 56 seconds into the second period cut the deficit to 2-1, but Thomas gave the Red Wings a 3-1 edge about eight minutes later.

Morrow’s goal at 11:42 of the second period pulled Dallas within 3-2, but Schneider answered with his third career short-handed goal 59 seconds into the third period.

Datsyk extended the lead to 5-2 on the power play at 5:26 of the final period, and scored on a breakaway with 37 seconds left.

Notes: Stars RW Jere Lehtinen remains on injured reserve due to back spasms, but Lehtinen is skating and could be within a week of returning to the lineup. Lehtinen has played in only two games this season. … Dallas D Teppo Numminen missed the game with a groin injury. … RW Darren McCarty was scratched for the Red Wings due to back spasms. … Stars RW Mathias Tjarnqvist made his NHL debut. … Detroit’s Jason Williams nearly had a goal in the second period, but replay showed that the puck wasn’t completely over the goal line.
