AUBURN – The Captain Frank W. Hulett Post 1603, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S., hosted a Maine Veterans of Foreign Wars military officers leadership course, which concentrated on volunteerism and fund-raising, at the post home, 588 Minot Ave., recently.

Instructor was Phil Coulombe, state sergeant-at-arms, a member of the Lisbon VFW Post 9459. Coulombe is a decorated Vietnam veteran and a professional finance manager for a local concern.

Rosemarie Lane, state commander, said, “It’s important that those responsible for the 83 posts in Maine, volunteers who continuously work in their communities, receive all the training they need to assist their communities in whatever endeavors their communities request.”

The Maine Veterans of Foreign Wars is comprised of 21,000-plus veterans and auxiliary members. The veterans must have served overseas, been awarded a campaign medal, or served in Korea from July 1949 to present or were awarded “Hostile Fire” or “Imminent Danger” pay at any time.

Other classes will be held in the central and northern parts of the state as the year progresses.
