PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Pat Leahy’s goal capped off a late-game comeback as the Providence Bruins scored three unanswered goals in the final seven minutes of the third period to defeat the Portland Pirates 4-3.

After Ivan Ciernik gave Portland a 3-1 lead at 10:08 of the final frame, Matt Herr breathed life into the staggering Bruins, scoring at 13:25 to pull Providence within one.

Ivan Huml whistled a wrist shot into the top left corner past Pirate goalie Maxime Ouellet at 18:28 to tie the game.

After Leahy scored at 19:00, Providence dodged a bullet in the final ten seconds. Portland went on a power-play and pulled its goaltender, but the Bruins held on to win.

Ted Donato assisted on both Herr’s and Leahy’s goals.

Providence goalie Hannu Toivonen (4-2-1) made 25 saves, while his counterpart Ouellet (3-7) made 14 stops.

Trent Whitfield had a goal and an assist for the Pirates.
