With routine maintenance and snowmaking up grades easily running into hundreds of thousands of dollars, annual improvements at ski areas often total in millions and this year is no different. And as in several recent seasons one of the biggest investors is Bretton Woods.
This resort claimed the title New Hampshire’s biggest ski area a few years ago, and the growth continues with another high speed quad. The new lift will access a dozen new runs on the new Rosebrook summit, which will feature a run named for Bode Miller, who has become the resort’s director of skiing.
The final phase of the base lodge expansion is being completed, and new nordic trails will connect the cross country center with the new AMC Highland Center in Crawford Notch. Also new this year is a plan to carry skiers part way up Mount Washington on the Cog Railway for groomed skiing on the lower slopes adjacent to the track.
Tenney Mountain opened Oct. 1 with their new snowmaking system that actually allowed them to make snow and open for tubing in mid summer. This could make skiing a year round operation.
Cranmore is upgrading snowmaking, expanding the Darksided Terrain Park and improving the food and beverage experience in the base lodge.
Attitash is another area enhancing snowmaking infrastructure along with lift maintenance. Food and beverage service areas are being remodeled.
Cannon Mountain has nine new trails serviced by a new fixed grip quad chair lift, as part of a multi year expansion plan.
Several buildings are being renovated and additional snowmaking equipment is being installed.
