NORWAY – Norway Downtown Revitalization is encouraging Main Street merchants to get in the holiday spirit by dressing up their shop windows.

Anne Campbell, NDR director, said a window decorating contest with the theme of “Winter Wonderland” is being offered in conjunction with the Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce’s Christmas Parade on Nov. 29.

A panel of five judges will give awards for best scene and best display of product. They will judge entries on Nov. 25.

There will also be a people’s choice award, chosen by the public. Ballots for the people’s choice award are available at participating Main Street businesses and can be dropped off at ballot boxes in the following locations: Norway Memorial Library, Norway Downtown Revitalization office at 445 Main St., the Guy E. Rowe Elementary School, Norway Savings Bank and Key Bank.

People’s choice ballots must be turned in by 3 p.m. on Nov. 29, at a ballot box in the information kiosk at the corner of Cottage and Main streets.

People will be asked to choose the best holiday scene and best display of product.

Winners in all categories will be announced at the town Christmas tree lighting at 5 p.m. at the junction of Main and Lake streets. Winner will receive a framed certificate created by David Freeman of Designs, Norway.

The last time there was a window decorating contest was in 2000.

Nicole Hemmingway, a senior at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, is in charge of the program as part of her marketing class.
