NORWAY – The Downtown Revitalization Office announced that the annual Christmas tree ornament is available.

This year’s ornament, the fourth to be manufactured, depicts Woodman’s Sporting Goods store.

Woodman’s was built just after the great fire of 1894 as part of the Opera House block. It originally served as a one-horse fire station.

Its log-cabin-inspired facade was added in 1936 by the Stone family, who established a hunting and fishing store there. They later sold the store to Herman Woodman. Paul Brook bought the business in 1993.

The ornament is made of hardwood by The Frog’s Leap of Norway.

“We decided to have the ornaments made to draw attention to some of the buildings on Main Street that have such a great history,” said Anne Campbell, revitalization director.

The 2003 ornaments are available in Norway at: Cattails, Fare Share Market, Grassroots Graphics, Maine Discoveries, Norway Memorial Library, Norway Town Office, L.F. Pike & Son, Woodman’s and the Revitalization Office at 445 Main St.

The revitalization group also has ornaments from previous years: L.M. Longley & Son from 2002, Norway Memorial Library from 2001, and the Norway Town Seal 2000. Ornaments are $10 apiece, $18 for a set of two and $35 for a set of four.

Campbell said the revitalization group would mail ornaments to family, friends and former residents who are out of town. For more information, phone 207-739-2215.
