FARMINGTON – Selectmen are scheduled to hold public hearings Tuesday on a proposed extension of a water line and a hazard mitigation plan.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Municipal Building.

Farmington Village Corp. officials are expected to present details regarding a proposed 1,500-foot extension of a water line to residences off of Titcomb Hill Road.

The project will also include the abandonment of three private water systems that serve the Titcomb Hill Road apartment complexes.

The town, on behalf of the Farmington Village Corp, intends to apply for a Community Development Block Grant to finance the final engineering and construction of the project.

A $10,000 planning grant had previously been approved.

The block grant is federal money administered by the state, Town Manager Richard Davis said. The maximum amount available for public facilities infrastructure is $400,000, he said.

Preliminary project figures exceed $450,000.

The other hearing slated to begin about 6:45 p.m. deals with the town’s proposed mitigation plan. That plan identifies major hazards that face the community and develops a number of goals and strategies to minimize their impact.

A plan needs to be in place if the town wants to qualify for Federal Emergency Management Agency funds.

Following the hearings, selectmen are scheduled to conduct its regular meeting.
