The land-locked property sold for $751.

BETHEL – At Monday night’s selectmen meeting, the board tabled the Bethel Inn’s sewer system refund request once again, and OK’d the sale of a tax-acquired lot.

At their last meeting, selectmen had awarded the lot, a 6.6-acre piece on Flat Road, to high bidder Donald W. Conant for $2,111. Last week, Conant backed out of the deal after learning the property was landlocked, Town Manager Scott Cole said.

That’s why on Monday night the board awarded the property to the only other bidder, D.A. Wilson and Co. for $751. Closing date in the sale of all parcels is slated for Tuesday, Dec. 2.

The sewer system refund request was tabled until the board’s next meeting on Monday, Dec. 1, “to find a legal way to issue the refund,” Cole said.

The town’s sewer system development charge ordinance makes no clear provision for a refund, despite the board’s general opinion over past years that such a refund was possible, he added.

In other business, selectmen identified Jan. 26 as the date when they would meet with the Planning Board and Board of Appeals to discuss with the town’s attorney conflicts of interest and rules of procedure for the appellate body.
