1922 – 2003

DOVER-FOXCROFT – Sheldon (Ted) L. Harvey, 81, passed quietly at home Nov. 18. In his final days he was comforted by family and friends.

He was born Feb. 12, 1922, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Ralph M. and Mary Ellen Plummer Harvey. After graduating from Foxcroft Academy in 1941, he enlisted in the United States Navy with his twin brother, Lawris (Bud) Harvey. During World War II he and Bud served in North Africa and Okinawa. He married Elizabeth Hebel on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1945, prior to Ted’s duty assignment in Okinawa.

“Ted” worked 50 years in the building construction trade. In 1949, after working in the Bangor/Brewer area for T. W. Cunningham Construction Co., he returned to his home town where he was employed by his brother “Bus” as a foreman in the J.M. Harvey Construction Co. Following the death of his brother in 1966, he established his own carpentry and cabinet making business. He was well known as a skilled craftsman and respected as a man of integrity throughout the community.

He served as a Boy Scout leader for 15 years and in 1963 received Scouting’s most prestigious leadership award, the Silver Beaver. He was a member of Mosaic Masonic Lodge No. 52 AF & AM in Dover-Foxcroft and was Dad Advisor for DeMolay.

He was an active and devoted member of the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational United Church of Christ for more than 50 years. He served cheerfully in many capacities and was loved by all who knew him.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, time at Sebec Lake with family, and supporting Foxcroft Academy Ponies. Trips to the Allagash and Mirimachi with family and special friend, Stanley Higgins, were highlights of his 80th year.

He leaves his loving wife and best friend, Betty; his daughter, Nancy Ellen Pullen and son-in-law, Larry of Auburn; his son, Tom Harvey and daughter-in-law, Karen of Marblehead, Mass.; his grandchildren, Brandon, Michael and Ian Pullen, Emily, and Adam (wife Megan) Harvey, Hadley and Ben Breed; and great-granddaughter, Madison Elizabeth Harvey; a twin brother, Lawris (Bud) Harvey and wife Vesta; his sister-in-law, June Hebel; cousin, Paul Goss; nephews, Dick, Ed, Jim Harvey and Chris Hebel; nieces, Pat Hurlburt, Mary Marble, Peg Reinhold, Pam Mauger, Karen Stoudt, Pauli Haggis; many grandnephews and grandnieces; Mike Taylor, Janice Weatherbee, Alison Donahue, and many other close neighbors and friends.

He was predeceased by brothers, James (Bus) and Newell (Tim) and their wives, Betty Sr. and Caroline.
